Information on the processing of personal data necessary for the activation and operation of the website www.geobalkans.eu as indicated by the Research Project “GEOBALKANS” (hereinafter referred to as “Project”) – INFORMATION EX ART. 13 et seq. EU REG. 679/2016

In compliance with Art. 26 of the European Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (hereinafter GDPR), the University of Naples L’Orientale and the University of Verona, by virtue of the collaboration established within the GEOBALKANS research project, have agreed on the appropriateness of entering into a co-ownership agreement; this was so that the respective roles, activities, responsibilities and obligations regarding the processing of personal data carried out jointly within the framework of the above-mentioned project would be defined. 

 

In compliance with Art. 13 et seq. of the GDPR, and in relation to the personal data of which the above-mentioned Universities will come into the possession, the following is hereby stated:

Each Co-owner shall designate its own Data Controllers, if this is necessary in the context of the activation and operation of the website related to the Project.

 

Purpose and legal basis

The personal data processed in the course of the Website navigation are exclusively for the purpose of enabling navigation and are processed by the co-owners in the performance of their public interest tasks, and related to the purposes of the Project and its communication activities (Art. 6, paragraph 1, lett. e) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679). The legal basis for the processing of profiling cookies or other tracking tools is to be found in the consent referred to in Article 6 paragraph 1, letter a) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679. Each Co-owner ensures compliance with the provisions of the law, in particular that data are processed in accordance with the law, correctly and transparently and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes pursued.

The processing of personal data is carried out by the Co-Owners within the scope of the execution of their respective public interest tasks as well as for the fulfillment of legal obligations (Art. 6, para. 1, letter e) and c) and Art. 9, para. 2 letter g) of the GDPR).

 

Type of data processed

The categories of personal data processed are the IP addresses of the computers used by the users who connect to the website, the addresses in URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) of the requested resources, the time of the request, the method used in submitting the request to the server, the size of the file obtained in response, the numerical code indicating the status of the response given by the server (successful, error, etc.) and other parameters related to the user’s operating system and computer environment. Computer IP addresses are stored in an anonymized mode with two-byte masking (i.e., the last 2 bytes of the IP address are hidden) so that the computer user cannot be traced.

 

The collected raw data are also automatically deleted after 180 days (except for any need to detect crimes by the judicial authorities).

The optional, explicit and voluntary sending of electronic mail to the addresses indicated on this website entails the subsequent acquisition of the sender’s address, necessary to respond to requests, in addition to any other personal data included in the message.

 

Treatment data recipients  

The data may be disclosed to entities that carry out activities functional to the achievement of the purposes of the processing, such as the Data Processors that may have been appointed by each Data Controller and the Project Partners. A Data Transfer Agreement has been signed with partners from a third country (non-EEA), which governs the transfer of personal data to such countries with adequate safeguards in accordance with Art.46 paragraph 2, letter d) of the EU Regulation 679/2016.

 

Modes of processing

The Co-owners, as agreed in the Co-ownership Agreement, process data in accordance with logics that guarantee the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data, as well as the personal dignity and decorum of the data subjects.

The processing of personal data by the Co-owners is also carried out through the interaction between their respective information systems, ensuring compliance with the provisions defined in the Agreement and by current legislation on the protection of personal data.

 

Data storage

Refer to above for browsing data. Personal data freely submitted by users of the website, which are subject to the processing, are not stored except as required for the purposes stated above within the scope of the Project.

 

Mode of Rights Exercise

Data subjects have the right to request from the Data Controllers access to and rectification or erasure of personal data or restriction of the data processing concerning them or to refuse the data processing (Articles 15 et seq. of EU Regulation 679/2016). They also have the right to obtain a copy of the co-ownership agreement, access to the list of any designated co-owners of the data processing and to obtain further information regarding the transfer to third countries of their data. The specific requests shall be submitted to the contact addresses below.

Complaints

The data subject has the right to submit complaints to the Data Protection Authority if he/she considers that the data processing concerning him/her does not comply with the provisions in force in accordance with Article 77 of the EU Regulation 2016/679.
